'Adventures in the Archives' is a single channel documentary film exploring feminist ways of approaching archival practice. A group of 11 women gather in the Feminist Library and discuss, drawing from fragments of feminist publications, what feminism means to them, thinking about why we need to defend our community spaces. Taking its name from the Raincoats' 1979 song 'Adventures Close to Home' (Raincoats members Ana da Silva and Shirley O'Loughlin participate in the film), the conversation took place in the Feminist Library on Westminster Bridge Road, shortly before the library was due to move to a new premises on Old Kent Road, forced out of central London by unsustainable rent increases. The film includes extracts from Solanas' SCUM manifesto, Issues of The Black feminist Newsletter from the 1980s, and writings by Khalida Messaoudi amongst others. The film is part of 'Herstoriographies: The Feminist Media Archive Project', an ongoing project by Dr. Azadeh Fatehrad and Dr. Ros Murray exploring feminist media and archival research.
